Understanding the bACEic Academic Structure
Each institute has its own way of organising teaching. bACEic’s structure should help represent that operating model without requiring staff to duplicate the same curriculum or learning design unnecessarily. The terms below describe the intended concepts; the exact relationships and supported options depend on the configured product model.
Course Family: reusable learning design
A Course Family is intended to hold reusable academic design, such as curriculum, learning material and session plans, so the institute can reuse that foundation rather than recreate it for every delivery.
Program: what the institute offers
A Program represents an offering that the institute makes available to learners. It provides an operational context for delivering the learning experience. Depending on the model, a program may bundle one or more courses.
Course: a learning component
A Course represents a defined component of learning. It may have its own scope, curriculum or learning outcomes and may be associated with a program according to the institute’s setup.
Batch: a group of learners
A Batch is a way to group students for coordinated delivery, scheduling or administration. Not every institute uses batches in the same way, so follow the model configured for your organisation.
Session: a teaching event
A Session is an individual scheduled teaching or learning event. Sessions may be associated with a program, course, batch or teacher according to the product’s supported workflow.
How the concepts fit together
- A reusable learning design can reduce repeated curriculum setup.
- A program describes what the institute is offering.
- Courses represent the learning components included in that offering.
- Batches organise groups of students when needed.
- Sessions represent individual delivery events.
Example
An institute may reuse a Course Family’s learning design to configure a particular program, enrol students in a batch, and schedule sessions for that group. Treat this as a conceptual example; use the actual relationships supported by your bACEic configuration.
Why names and relationships matter
Use consistent names and avoid creating duplicate records simply because a new batch or delivery cycle is starting. Before cloning or creating a new program, check whether an existing setup can be reused.
